Seattle, arguably America’s farthest left, must pay $30.5M in damages for negligence in the death of Antonio Mays Jr. in the Marxist “sovereign” eight square blocks during George Floyd protests in 2020.
For three weeks, far-left protesters took over a few blocks in East Precinct of Seattle and “banned” the police and city services from entering, calling themselves a sovereign section called the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP). Previously, it was referred to as Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ).
Mayor Jenny Durkan and Police Chief Carmen Best backed off and allowed CHOP to function autonomously — until Mays Jr., a 16-year-old from California who traveled north to join the “civil rights” protests, was shot in the head and killed on June 29, 2020. Only then did they shut CHOP down.
Even the month-long civil suit brought by dad Antonio Mays Sr. is finished, no charges have been brought by police against the person who shot the son, even though witnesses blamed the very “security” elements set up by CHOP.
Volunteer protest medics attempted to treat Mays Jr. and a 14-year-old with him. Witnesses called 911, but because first responders refused to enter CHOP. They then tried to transport the boys via private vehicles.
Mays Jr. was described as a hardworking, home-schooled teenager poised to take over his father’s barbecue business. In the years since his death, the grief-stricken father stopped selling goods at night markets.
