Ella Langley first performed to the cows.
Now her “Choosin’ Texas” has busted previous record holders No. 1 at Billboard Hot 100 for 15 weeks (at 14 weeks, both Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” and Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” held the top spot).
Langley is unashamed of the Gospel: “You are good enough today. The fact that you woke up this morning made you good enough for today. The fact that we have a God that loves us is why you are good enough today. You will always be good enough. You will always be good enough,” Langley said in 2025.
“We’ll always fall short but always be good enough for that kind of love,” she added. “I hope today that if you heard anything from me in this set tonight, I want you to feel that kind of love. Because there’s no one else in this world that can give it to you the way that our Lord and Savior can. That type of love.”
Country music is resonating with Americans now because it focuses on America’s reality: love, lost love, struggling with bills, patriotism, family, trying to be a better person and God.
Born in Hope Hull, Alabama, Ella Langley learned her music in jam sessions at her local Southern Baptist church — one so small that it actually started in a barn.
“I grew up in a Southern Baptist church. And we started off every sermon by saying, ‘God is good. And all the time, God is good.’ God has been nothing but good to me. Nothing but good to me.”
After practicing in the pasture, she gave her first public performance at Hooper Academy talent show in 2019.
Singing a duet with Riley Green, “You Look Like You Love Me,” helped her into the stratosphere. Her sophomore album Dandelion features “Choosin’ Texas.”
At Easter of this year, she posted on Instagram: “Even though I’ve been a believer in Christ my whole life, my relationship with Him has changed drastically over the last year.”
But don’t think that her music is all approved for Sunday school. She hits typical country music themes, like drinking away your sorrows.
Still, she is not shy to praise God.
“I am so grateful for a God who leads with love and compassion,” she said. “Thank you Jesus for giving me a way to spend eternity with You.”
