Country singer Ella Langley’s was breaking through to national fame, and she was breaking down.
“My bass player walked up and my face was obviously swollen, I’d been crying,” Ella says. “And he said, ‘Um, are you okay?’ I just lost my mind. I’m having this panic attack again, and now I’m embarrassed on top of feeling this way.”
The collision of rapid fame, exhaustion, pressure, depression and a profound feeling that she didn’t deserve her success culminated in feelings of imposter syndrome and anxiety.
Ella had barely broken through nationally, and too quickly she got eight nominations for ACM Awards in May 2025. It was what she wanted but she felt she didn’t deserve it and couldn’t sustain the success.
Due to her breakdowns, Ella took some three weeks off from touring and reconnected with the Jesus she felt like she’d walked away from. She learned to sing with hymns at church but performed in bars singing all kinds of crazy lyrics.
She describes her relationship with God as a “rocky road.”
Then God showed her he still loved her. After the cry session in front of her drummer, she rode in an Uber and saw a “God’s got you” bumper sticker, just after her drummer had reassured her, “We got you.” Then the Uber driver prophetically told her, “God’s got you.”
“I just cried like a little kid,” Ella says. “For the first time in my life, I accepted that presence that has been there the whole entire time.”
Today, Langley stays grounded in her Bible.
“That is the thing that saved my life last year,” Ella says. “Instead of trying to go to other things like I have before — either men or drugs or other feelings, I go to Him first.”
