Nigerian Joy Edjeren was trying to break into the movie industry, and a certain director promised to make her a star. He also invited her to join the occult.
“I’m like, no,” Joy says. “Eventually, they took my name to a demonic coven and submitted my name as a sacrifice. They sent the powers to come and take my life. I was sleeping at night. I woke up to a sharp pain came to my leg. I woke up and life started leaving my body. My mouth was drying up. My whole body was shaking.”
Joy, whose stage name is JJ Bunny, attended church but was not serious about serving the Lord. She wasn’t born-again and said the Bible was just written by man. So when demons showed up, she was exposed and vulnerable, she said.

She called her born-again sister, who prayed and everything calmed down.
Joy was filming in Ghana at the time, and her sister was in Nigeria. Joy, along with other members of the family, got annoyed by her sister because she took Christ so seriously.
“I didn’t like her,” Joy says. “She was a born-again Christian, and she irritated me and the rest of the family that did not know Jesus. I thought, You’re too strict. You’re too religious.”
So Joy didn’t yet receive the Lord or go to her sister. She continued filming in Ghana (the industry there is called Ghallywood).
Because she didn’t submit her life, the attacks resumed, even though they calmed down that night that her sister prayed for her.
Joy sought help from hospitals, which didn’t work because the ailments were of spiritual origin, she says.
“I was dying,” she explains. “I was drying up.”
One night, “hen I returned home, the attacks became horribly bad,” Joy adds. “I woke up scared to death and the voice of the Lord said, Joy, if you don’t leave here, you’re going to die here.”
Finally, Joy left Ghana for Nigeria and her sister. She went to church, accepted the Lord and fully submitted her life.
“You need to take Jesus serious,” the pastor told her. “You can’t be playing religion here.”
She began reading her Bible every day.
“I was reading my Bible like I was drinking water,” she says. “When I used to read my Bible, I would fall asleep. It was so boring. But once the Lord started speaking to me about my life, I was reading my Bible, and I understood and the Lord started ministering to me.”
Eventually, Joy returned to America, and she’s taking Jesus seriously. She is a Christian evangelist, author, gospel singer and online ministry leader.
