While Covid lockdowns kept people isolated from each other, young girls were falling prey to human traffickers and increased suicide, due to internet shaming and social isolation from their peers.
“It is shocking how often this happens in America,” said Serrin Foster, president of Feminists for Life, a pro-life group that recently started Girls Deserve Better, an online platform dedicated to providing resources for young girls.
Feminists for Life’s goal with their new online program is to provide girls ages 13-21 with advice about everything from self worth and relationships to mental health and trafficking prevention.
“We don’t want them to experience sexual, physical, or emotional abuse,” Foster said. “Nor do we want them to suffer abortions.”
Feminists for Life launched Girls Deserve Better on Oct. 13, which is International Day of the Girl. They conducted surveys first to find out what girls were interested in these days, and then started their social media, as well as creating a portal on their website for girls who are not allowed to have social media.
Aside from giving girls wholesome content online, Girls Deserve Better does their share to keep girls informed about human traffickers.
“It became more urgent with predators like Jeffrey Epstein but there are so many others under the radar,” says Foster.
As well as share safety information regarding traffickers, Girls Deserve Better also shares the stories of those who have been trafficked.
“They are not everyone, but they are everywhere,” says Feminists for Life’s public education coordinator and editor, Joyce McCauley-Benner, who was raped in college and decided to keep her baby.
Feminists for Life’s new program is a force for good not only for girls, but for women everywhere.
