When Europe asked America to help Ukraine defend itself against Russia’s invasion, President Biden gave $350B — even though Ukraine wasn’t part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and wasn’t a threat to the U.S.
But when American came calling to ask for help against Iran, a threat against everyone, Europe alternated between waffling and assuming a self-righteous attitude against Trump.
So now, President Trump is threatening to remove 5,000+ troops from Germany, all of a sudden Germany remembers its partnership with the United States. “I am not giving up on working on the transatlantic relationship,” said German Chancellor Frederich Merz. “Nor am I giving up on working with Donald Trump.”
His comments Monday come after he mocked Trump’s failed negotiations with Iran in Islamabad. Germany refused to join the war and sent only limited support.
Italy and Spain could be next to lose U.S. troops after Italy gave zero support and Spain refused to pay a larger share of the NATO protection (and sounded off in favor Gaza instead of Israel). The United Kingdom continues to mock Trump and refuse support.
This is what they do: They depend on U.S. military presence in the country to counter the threat of Russia, but when asked to give in kind, they sound off with self-righteous sermons condemning Trump.
Supporting NATO makes zero sense for the United States. It’s a one-way relationship. These European nations have gutted their militaries and spent wildly on social programs and importing extremist Muslim immigrants — a policy that makes sense to woke politicians but to no one else.
Iran has the capability and the willingness to launch ballistic missiles against Europe. It is acquiring nuclear weapons capabilities. A policy of appeasement didn’t work against Hitler, and it won’t work against the psychopath regime in Iran. The Europeans need to not be pusillanimous.
