In his support of Palestine and in opposition to Israel and Jews, Tarek Bazrouk was loud and violent.
The New Yorker infiltrated the Columbia University protests to spread his brand of hate. The self-proclaimed Jew hater is now charged with violently attacking Jews on three separate occasions.
Tarek Bazrouk is a glaring example of a phenomenon widespread on college campuses in America, self-appointed enforcers who intimidate anyone holding a different view than progressivism.
Harvard and Columbia Universities just earned the lowest rating for free speech on a Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression survey, which means they earned the highest marks for censorship. Anyone expressing a contrary opinion gets “shouted down, suppressed or censored,” the report says. It is such the case that students at Columbia reported privately that they self-censor for fear of being targeted, doxed or whatever. You’re being watched, and you’d better toe the line.
When MIT class president Megha Vemuri went off script with a pro-Palestine tirade, she congratulated students for showing moral courage by overwhelmingly voting for MIT to divest from Israel. She might have as well as credited the enforcers for ensuring that wokeism prevails.
At UCLA, Jewish students were blocked from attending classes, harassed and intimidated. At the UCLA encampment, a sign was posted equated Jews with pigs.
Often, school administrators, instead of standing up for free speech, crack down on the people who have an unpopular opinion. The school administrators are enforcers also.
“When a controversy arises, the speech typically gets punished. A speaker gets disinvited. A faculty member gets sanctioned in some way, or a student or student organization does,” says Sean Stevens, FIRE’s chief research adviser. “Most of the students are very upset with how the administration has responded to protests over the past year.”
Faculty can be enforcers. They can humiliate students who speak up in class. They can insinuate that holding a contrary opinion may affect their grade adversely. They can be good at silencing others by letting it be known that certain students are pariah.
Evolutionary psychologist Richard Geary says that girls can be manipulated easier than boys into the political lockstep because of their orientation toward social cohesion. All that is needed is a girl enforcer to make sure others in the circle parrot the party line.
Shlomi Ziv says that while he was held hostage, his “Hamas captors bragged about having Hamas operatives on American university campuses.” Ziv has launched a civil lawsuit suing protest organizers (including Mahmoud Khalil) saying their movements were being orchestrated by Hamas. The suit is based on the Antiterrorism Act and the Alien Tort Statue and alleges the defendants “acted as Hamas’ foot soldiers in New York City.”
According to federal investigators, agitator Tarek Bazrouk kicked a Jew in the stomach on April 15, 2024 at Columbia. On Dec. 9, he slugged a Jew in the face while ranting about Hitler. His third act of alleged violence was Jan. 6 off campus. He is currently being held in jail.
The fact that Bazrouk apparently had direct contact with Hamas (as the Dept. of Justice says) makes you wonder what $750,000 in cash was doing in his safe when he was arrested. His lawyer says the money came from his job at a smoke shop.
Bazrouk was not a student of Columbia University. He didn’t need to be in order to infiltrate the campus and impose stridently his views. Was he paid by Hamas?
