If you wish to understand the mind-boggling marriage of Leftists and Islamists, you need to trace back to Carlos the Jackal, the godfather of terrorism who exploded bombs, killed people, extorted OPEC and eluded capture for decades. In Carlos you see communism and anti-Israel Muslim hate joined seamlessly.

Born Ilich Ramírez Sánchez in Venezuela, the mythical guerrillero followed his father’s footsteps into Marxist-Leninist ideology of violent overthrow. Trained to be an agent for the spread of communism at Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow, Ilich moved in July 1970 to Beirut where he joined the communist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in attacks to annihilate Israel. He was trained by Wadie Haddad in airliner hijackings.
He slipped into London where in 1973 he nearly killed Joseph Sieff, a Jewish businessman and vice president of the British Zionist Federation. He forced his way into the house and shot Sieff in the head; the bullet hit bone and bounced. Carlos’s gun jammed, preventing a second shot, and he fled in the night.
He mounted car bomb attacks against three French newspapers accused of pro-Israeli leanings. He threw a grenade at a Parisian restaurant in an attack that killed two and injured 30 as part of an 1974 French Embassy attack in The Hague.

He fired rocket propelled grenades at EL AL Israel Airlines at the Paris Orly Airport on two separate occasions in January 1975. In the second attack, hundreds of riot police engaged him and his comrades in a gun battle and a 17-hour hostage standoff.
Incredibly, Carlos escaped.
When police tracked Carlos to his residence in Paris in 1975, he shot and killed two officers and one informant and fled to Beirut via Brussels.
In December of the same year, he led a team of six terrorists to storm the OPEC meeting in Vienna and took 60 hostages, all prominent ministers and diplomats from oil-rich Arab nations. One of his demands was that Austrian radio read a pro-Palestinian communiqué every two hours over the radio. The next day he demanded and got a DC-9 airplane and, taking 42 hostages, flew to Algiers where they were released and Carlos and crew were granted asylum. OPEC nations paid $20 million for the release of their ministers.
When his wife Magdalena Kopp was arrested in Paris, Carlos unleashed a spate of attacks to force her release:

- bombing of the Paris-Toulouse TGV ‘Le Capitole’ train on March 29, 1982 (5 dead, 77 injured)
- car-bombing of the newspaper Al-Watan al-Arabi in Paris on April 22, 1982 (1 dead, 63 injured);
- bombing of the Gare Saint-Charles in Marseille on Dec. 31, 1983 (2 dead, 33 injured)
- bombing of the Marseille-Paris TGV train Dec. 31, 1983 (3 dead, 12 injured) .
- attack on the Maison de France in West Berlin in August 1983 (1 dead, 22 injured)
For two years, the communist regimes harbored Carlos and used him for their ends. Working for both Stasi and the KGB, he lived in Budapest until the communists, bowing to international pressure, expelled him and he retired to Damascus, Syria, where he went quiet for several years.
In 1990, Iraq came knocking on his door, eager to enlist his services. This led the Syrian government to expel him since Syria supported the United States counter-attack against Saddam Hussein in Kuwait.

Again, he disappeared from the clutches of the spymasters tracking him all over the world, finding refuge in Khartoum, Sudan, under the protection of Sheikh Hassan al-Turabi. He had eluded the U.S.’s CIA, Britain’s MI5 and France’s DST for decades.
Finally, in 1993, the CIA’s Billy Waugh turned him up and he was spirited out of the country to stand trial in Paris, where he remained defiant against justice at his trial in 1997. “When one wages war for 30 years, there is a lot of blood spilled—mine and others. But we never killed anyone for money, but for a cause—the liberation of Palestine,” he declared.
Today, he remains in jail in Paris, having lost the trial and two subsequent proceedings for his terror attacks.
Having lost the support of his Marxist handlers, Carlos the Jackal converted to Islam in prison in 2001. It was a natural progression. His 2003 book Revolutionary Islam, defends violence in terms of class conflict and supports Osama bin Laden.
He was seen as a maddeningly evil villain by international authorities. But with the successful takeover the radical Left has done among Liberals, the cause of socialism and the propaganda that Israel colonizes and oppresses Muslim lands have gained traction.
Carlos the Jackal has turned from subversive assassin into white knight.
If you wish to understand how LGBTQ blindly supports the extremists who would kill them under Sharia law, look to Carlos the Jackal. If you scratch your head as to why a progressive Latino (Elias Rodriguez) in New York killed two Jews at a museum, look to Carlos. If you wonder at woke New York City voting for a socialist Arab Jew-hating Democrat (Zohran Mamdani), remember it’s a heritage started by Carlos.
In public appearances in court houses, Carlos the Jackal smiles smugly, unrepentant, defiant, happy he killed so many innocent civilians because in his mind, it was justified. It was for Marxism and for the Palestinian State. His legacy not just lives, it thrives and grows.
