The YouVersion Bible app has reached over 1 billion downloads, becoming one of the most widely used faith-based apps globally.
Many believers begin each new year with a resolution to read the Bible, and increasingly they are turning to digital tools to stay consistent. What started as a simple idea in 2008 has grown into a global platform designed to make scripture accessible anytime, anywhere.

For some families, the impact is deeply personal. Lauren Jones remembers the early struggles with her son Kent, who was diagnosed with autism and had limited speech.
“When we were at church, he would have breakdowns. He would scream/cry because of the noise,” she said. “When he started speaking, he was very repetitive.”
After the sudden loss of her husband, Lauren was left raising her children alone and felt uncertain about their future.
“I was very afraid… I did not know what their lives would look like as they grew up,” she explained. In that uncertainty, she leaned on her faith and introduced her children to the Bible through the app.
Over time, Kent began to change. Once largely nonverbal, he developed the ability to speak clearly – and the Bible app played a role. He read it to his younger sister.
“I’m very glad I’m able to talk because it’s a super, super duper necessary skill,” Kent said.

“I believe the word of God gave my son words,” Lauren shared.
Kent’s story was later highlighted during a major celebration at the Paycom Center, marking the app’s billion-download achievement.
Standing before a crowd, he expressed gratitude: “Thank you for letting the Bible app make a huge difference in my life and in the lives of countless people around the world.”
The app’s mission continues to expand. Backed by Life.Church and led by founder Bobby Gruenewald, the team envisions reaching billions more.
“We serve a God that’s not limited by our imagination,” Gruenewald said, pointing to the possibility of doubling downloads to 2B in five years.

Part of that growth comes from adapting content for cultures worldwide. Teams work with local communities to ensure devotionals feel relevant and relatable, even down to small details. These efforts help users feel personally connected, no matter where they live.
“We’ve really wanted the Bible app to always feel like it was made for you when you open it,” one team member explained. That focus on personalization, combined with global outreach, continues to drive its success.
For Kent, the impact goes beyond technology. “What happened to me through the Bible app is evidence for miracles being possible no matter how impossible they seem,” he said.
As more people seek meaning and connection, digital tools like the Bible app are becoming part of everyday faith. For millions, it’s not just about reading scripture—it’s about transformation, hope, and a reminder that even small steps can lead to life-changing outcomes.
