After disarming an active terrorist shooter at Bondi Beach, Syrian-Australian Ahmed el-Ahmed, a Muslim, was internationally lauded as a hero by everyone.
Well, almost everyone. Certain members of the Religion of Peace accuse him essentially of being a Judas Iscariot.
“He killed a Muslim soul to please his masters the Jewish Dogs … eternally in the fires of hell,” thundered a comment on a Facebook site.
“By Allah we will surely chop you to pieces … we will not leave a trace of you,” said another.
On the popular Palestinian site Ramallah News — which enjoys millions of views — fully 75% of comments accused El-Ahmed of being a traitor to Islam, says Ahron Shapiro, of Melbourne, a senior researcher for Palestinian Media Watch. Most of the negative comments come from Palestinians.
“Treason comes to you from the closest people,” a comment says.
“He sold himself and his life for the safety of the Jews,” says another.
Called the worst terror attack in Australian history, the Dec. 14 Sydney massacre’s death toll reached 15 with 40 or so injured. Father Sajid Akram and son Naveed Akram shot rifles only at Jews celebrating Hannukah at the beach.
El-Ahmed bum-rushed Naveed from behind and wrestled from him his weapon. Untold numbers of lives were saved as a result of his heroism. In the process, he was shot in the hand by a police officer confused in the active shooter setting.
“I wish it (the bullet) hit your heart,” one commentator said, and another said “May Allah not heal you.”
Of the 1000 comments, 30% claimed Israel itself was behind the attack.
“This is the work of the Zionist Mossad, exactly like the (9/11) events of the American towers,” one comment said.
Another: “The Zionists have now begun operations to restore the image of victimhood and try to win international sympathy again to fight extremism and anti-Semitism.”
The comments follow the conspiracy theory that the Jews were behind the 9/11 attack and Holocaust denials.
“They want the world’s sympathy. They are the ones who commit these tricks,” still another comment said.
Another: “The Australian government took a firm stance against the entity during the genocide operation in Gaza. This is certainly the work of the Mossad to pressure the Australian government to change its position toward the entity.”
Meanwhile, Australian fundamentalist Muslim preachers echo the comments, said Dr, Ran Porat, a research associate at Monash University’s Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation.
There’s a “refusal to take responsibility for the extremism that emerges from education and incitement,” Porat says. “Even more disturbing is the fact that these views are being echoed in Australia by fundamentalist preachers in mosques, in media outlets targeting Australian Arabs and Muslims, and within universities.
“The Australian authorities must crack down on individuals and organizations that spread such hate and conspiracy theories,” he added.
