In a bid to recapture its heritage as lead new site, CBS hired Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief. The move is causing a major meltdown among leftists because it breaks the stranglehold progressives have on legacy news outlets.
“The goal of CBS is to re-establish trust in the news media sphere — producing hard hitting unabashed news no matter where the story may land,” assured Andrea Shaeffer on X.
The legacy media have lost the trust of Americans. They pandered to the vaccine profiteers. They suppressed free speech. They propagated Hamas lies without bothering to verify. They said science required lockdowns except if you’re protesting George Floyd.
“How can we trust public health experts when clearly they are becoming politicized?” Weiss says.
Bari Weiss is a strange journalist to accuse of being a right-wing shill. She’s married to a wife. Shouldn’t the woke mob embrace her?

But the reason they hate her is the journalism she does. She worked at the Wall Street Journal and was hired by the New York Times upon Trump’s first presidency to bring in alternative voices after the traditional news missed the groundswell of American conservativism.
Eventually, Weiss quit the Times because she wasn’t allowed to publish the types of articles for which she was hired. The woke mob that had taken over the Times and pumped the idea that America was founded on slavery. The woke mob stifled her.
Weiss left the Times in 2020, as she says, simply to do journalism, to pursue any and all story to its truthful end, not the pre-set conclusions established by progressives. Her Substack reports evolved into The Free Press, a quality alternative news site that got to 1.5M subs.
At the Free Press, Weiss was breaking story after story, undercutting the narrative of the legacy media. She was the first to debunk the Israel-bombs-hospital story. The “famine” in Gaza was non-existent; the pictures of emaciated kids turned out to be caused by congenital disorders.
Her entrepreneurial effort was a huge success, which is probably why CBS’s new owner, David Ellison, swooped in to hire her (and buy The Free Press).
It’s a complete makeover the journalistic landscape — and liberals are seething that CBS is breaking ranks with leftist-only news.
CBS reporters were said to be “freaking out,” depressed and glumly waiting a “doomsday” of massive layoffs.
“Everyone at CBS should quit in protest,” thundered the morally outraged Walker Bragman of the Accountability Journalism Institute. “Bari Weiss is a misinformation-peddling, right-wing operative. She’s totally unqualified for this job.”
Nicole Hannah-Jones — who herself discredited journalism with her anti-historic 1619 Project but stayed in the business because she was part of the woke narrative — unsurprisingly penned unkind words to her fellow journalist.

“In case it wasn’t clear, the anti-DEI crusade has never been about merit,” said the lady who said slavery to is America’s foundation. “Zero news experience. Never been a reporter. Elevated to editor-in-chief of CBS News.”
She’s been called “alt-righter,” “fascist,” “the Jewish, female version of Kanye West.”
During her first days on the job, Weiss instituted the highly controversial policy of journalists being truthful. She sent 10 Rules for Journalism to her staff.

Apparently, the Old Guard of Protect the Democrats/Attack the Republicans are sick to their stomach that they are being required to be balanced.
A recent news cycle spat illustrates the problem. Jay Jones was the Democrat’s candidate for Virginia Attorney General. In October, the National Review uncovered texts from August 2022 in which Jones called for “two bullets to the head” of then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican.

ABC, CBS, NBC skipped coverage of this. It got ignored by NPR, PBS and the Daily Beast. Five days after the emergence of the incendiary texts, the New York Times still hadn’t deemed it newsworthy. The media had his back, and Jones won the election.
“Most of the corporate media view their job as existing to help out the Democrat Party with their campaigns,” said Mollie Hemingway, a conservative author. “We know that if this were a Republican candidate, it would be leading every every single news show.”
Since the days of Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather and Connie Chung, CBS has faded in glory and dropped behind the other big news organizations. Its only offerings have been CBS Sunday Morning and 60 Minutes, which infamously edited Kamala Harris‘s interview to make her sound more intelligent.
The contracting of Bari Weiss is an attempt to recover CBS’s fame.
But it’s also a balancing of news. Weiss is not going to follow lockstep with the echo chambers of the Democratic Party.
