Oh, it’s buzzy to oppose the Iran war right now, but Joe Lonsdale points out that the United States has been fighting radical Islam since its earliest days. In fact, the U.S. Navy was founded to combat Islamist pirates who took American seaman as slaves.
The U.S. ambassador at the time visited the Muslim leaders of Algiers, Tunis, Tripoli and Morocco to ask why they were attacking U.S. ships. Their answer was off radar for the Americans:
It’s our right as a superior group. We’re the Muslims and and we’re going to take them. It’s our right because you’re not Muslim. And so we have a right to take you and to take what we want. And that is what our holy book tells us. (as paraphrased by Palentir co-founder).
If their response left leaders of the new nation scratching their heads, it also forced them to take defensive action. Most European nations paid the ransoms demanded by the so-called Barbary pirates (Muslim raiders).
The U.S. Navy was founded because of these Muslim attacks. They’ve come full circle now by enforcing a naval blockade against Iran.
President Thomas Jefferson and the Congress sent the U.S. Navy to wage war on the Barbary Coast. To this day, the Marines’ Hymn commemorates their first battle “to the shores of Tripoli.” The first war (1801-’05) was followed by the second Barbary war (1815), after which pirates pretty much stopped attacking U.S. ships.
So really, what is going on Iran is nothing new and is the only logical response to crazed, fanatical Muslims who follow the conquest model stipulated by the Qur’an.
“That was 200 years ago, obviously, right?” Lonsdale says. But now, “you get a relatively modern country (Iran) conquered and raped by this crazy theocracy (the regime). Same exact type of guys as 200 years ago. These are guys that are taking what they want, raping, killing.
“They’re spreading their money to Venezuela. We caught them building things there,” he adds. “We caught them building things all around Africa. Obviously, hey destroyed the Christian country of Lebanon.
“They’re doing all sorts of other bad stuff. Now, we know, thanks to this war, they were lying. They did have missiles that could go 4,000 km. So they’re going to have basically crazy jihadis. We know they’re building nukes at this point. They had 11 bombs they were going to have.”
Within 10 years, the crazed jihadis of Iran could launch nuclear missiles against the United States, but we had a window of opportunity to cut off that possibility by attacking them when they were weakened by economics and by Israel, Lonsdale says.
If Trump hadn’t acted, it would have simply been the problem of kicking the can down the road. Ten or 20 years from now, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps gets nuclear missiles that can reach the United States and they don’t have the rationality to NOT use them.
By not acting to neutralize a known threat, we give our children death by weapons of mass destruction from insane religious fanatics who know no reasonableness because of the proscriptions of their religion.
“Our children are in a world where it’s the nuclear armed guys with crazy missiles,” Lonsdale says.
