If you pull off your jersey to celebrate a goal in a soccer game, it’s an automatic yellow card. Leagues don’t want players showing off their muscles — or if they have some sort of undershirt on, a message.
So when Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus pulled off his jersey to reveal an “I belong to Jesus” T-shirt on underneath on Dec. 30 last year, he had a pay the price.
Gabriel might have considered it worthwhile. In front of roaring fans against Aston Villa F.C. in the Emirates Stadium, the striker nailed Arsenal’s fourth and final goal for the decisive 4-1 victory.

His gesture was reproduced on the Primier League’s Instagram account, which is subscribed to by 80M worldwide. It features Gabriel in top-and-bottom with the first soccer star to wear the same undershirt, Kaka.
“Jesus saved my life,” he said later in an interview. “Through the tough moments in my life, I realized that we are nothing without Jesus. I want to glorify his name because he made a huge difference in these tough moments in my life. So now in the shining moments, I want to glorify his name.”
