For decades now, the evangelical church has been among Israel’s staunchest supporter. Christians, mindful of the debt of gratitude they owe their spiritual forebearers (Ro. 9:4), have seen Jews as their next of kin, sharing the same God, just missing the Savior.
For decades now, Christians have been foremost in defending Jews from antisemitic attacks.
But now, antisemitism is coming to your church. Fueled by online anger-mongers who wrongly say that Jews are no longer the people of God but only Christians are, antisemitism is finding its way into the hearts of the faithful. We can blame Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens.

A word about doctrine: There is no question that Christians are God’s people and that you need Jesus to be saved. But Rom. 11:18 calls the Jews the root that sustains us Christians. Then Rom. 11:29 says God’s calling is irrevocable, and Rom. 11:25 foretells of Israel’s coming salvation (when they accept the Messiah).
In light of these and other scriptures, Christians must stand by and defend their Jewish forebearers.
The online content attempts to smash up our love for the Jews: Israel is a political entity deserving criticism and even annihilation. Jews run the media, the government, the education system, etc. Jews are only cursed by God for having rejected the Savior.
The tropes and twistings go on and on, but at the heart, there’s just a resentment, a targeting of a people group (often seen as white and capitalist) that doesn’t deserve compassion like other people groups. Hence, you find Dutch calling for Jews to be thrown in the canals and you find American university students attacking Jews violently — while Christians stand idly by unconcernedly.

What they are peddling is not sound theology. It is hate, plain and simple — hate for God’s chosen.
In the case of Tucker Carlson, his extreme isolationist political outlook wants to keep America out of any and every war, so he aims at the Israeli-U.S. alliance. In the case of Candace Owens, her antipathy for Jews (scriptedly calling them “Zionists“) seems to have been born out of a feud with her former boss, Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro. It seems once she got going on provoking Shapiro, she kept going down that rabbit hole, following her bile to its logical conclusion, never re-evaluating her opinions openly and recalibrating them.
If you call for the elimination of Israel, you are essentially giving permission to millions of Israel-hating Muslims to annihilate Jews. The Jewish homeland was given to Israel after WW2, when Hitler killed 6M Jews. The United Nations voted to form Israel, and this was a fulfillment of prophecy (Matt. 24:32).
If you say Israel has no right to defend itself against its enemies, you’re antisemitic. You are picking up bits and pieces of propaganda, amalgamated by conservative commentators, and authorizing the Muslims who interpret the Quran and the hadiths to mean they must kill all Jews everywhere. You can hide your antipathy by saying, “I’m not against Jews, I’m just against Zionists,” but it is hatred for Jews anyway.

There is a need for pastors to teach sound doctrine. Obviously, being confused about Israel and the Jews does not disqualify you from salvation, but it is a step in the wrong direction, in the direction that Satan has always wanted people to go.
In centuries past, many Christians were antisemitic. They called Jews “Christ killers,” ignoring the obvious that everyone who sins is a “Christ killer.”
It’s disturbing to see the evil past arise and taking hold of the modern church.
TL;DR
- Christians are the people of God.
- Jews are not completely rejected as God’s people and will come into his peopleship again as prophesied.
- The land belongs to Israel.
- Israel has a right to defend itself.
- If Christians hate Israel or Zionism, they empower radical Muslims to kill Jews.
- Christians should be foremost in protecting their spiritual forebearers.
