Despite its name meaning, “Land of the Free,” Liberia faces turmoil and bondage on a daily basis. With limited access to healthy food, the people of Liberia, particularly young mothers, infants, and children are held captive by starvation and malnutrition on a daily basis.
Countless Liberians have little access to adequate basic nourishment and suffer the ramifications of deficiencies in all macro and micronutrients. These deficiencies cause severe developmental delays, mental retardation, in children and damages to every physiological system of the body across all age groups.
Due to these vitamin and mineral deficiencies, the Liberians desperately need an outside source of food rich in these essential nutrients which promote adequate physical health.

According to the Global Hunger Index, 29.8% of children under the age of five years old are stunted in their growth patterns. More alarming still, 7.3% of Liberian children die before their fifth birthday as a result of malnutrition, developmental delays and starvation.
Lighthouse Medical Missions has staged several medical mission in Liberia and will return there in October, 2025. Not only will the medical team address the immediate medical needs of the people, but will also be equipped to address the desperate needs of children, mothers and other people who are suffering from severe malnutrition.

The hope is to bring a vast amount of a food supplement called Bennimix and a large supply of vitamins to begin to meet the need. Bennimix is fortified pre-cooked rice and beans blended with vital nutrients, proteins, minerals and vitamins. The hope is to bring enough of a supply of Bennimix and vitamins to last those in need for six months.
To meet this immediate need, Lighthouse Medical Missions is raising additional funds for the October mission to Liberia (Donate here). Please help us liberate Liberia from starvation, developmental delays and premature death by donating to this vital cause. Any money raised would be utilized to purchase the needed amounts of Bennimix and vitamins to take on the medical mission in October to Liberia.
