In a move that shows the lack of freedom of speech in the U.K., a 17-year-old boy who preaches at Speaker’s Corner in London has been reported to Social Services, the police and Prevent, an anti-terrorist outreach.
Young Bob, as he’s called, also got kicked out of his house for voicing his Christian values. He’s the youth ambassador for the conservative Turning Point U.K.
“Right now I’m sort of like sofa surfing,” he reported on a YouTube video on the Revelation 22:13 channel. “I’ve got a lot of problems. I don’t really have that many solutions.”
But he’s not quitting his call in the Gospel.
“What I will do is have a cracking smile on my face and a good time because I think it’s hilarious that just because of the merit of someone’s opinion, you can be arrested, your family disagree with you and ultimately your house, your potential future and your career is completely gone away with,” Bob said. “It is the tragedy of the west and very famously it said that once your right to complain is removed then ultimately you have no
rights whatsoever.”
Young Bob uses a nickname because he debates comparative religion at Speaker’s Corner with Muslims, some of whom have used violence against Christians in the past. The Christian debaters almost all use nicknames for this reason. The moniker appears to derive from another, older Christian debater, Bob, sometimes called “Bob the Builder,” who has some resemblance to Young Bob.
Young Bob emerged last year as a new and rising star of the open-air debate. Passionate about Jesus and knowledgeable about comparative religions, he created a sensation at the Hyde Park (Speaker’s Corner). He says he also preaches at Canary Wharf and Dover.
He joined Turning Point U.K., an organization that opposes uncontrolled immigration, transgenderism and, to a lesser extent, abortion. For joining Turning Point and for dialoguing with Muslims, the current Labour government and far-left police and judiciary have flagged him as a far-right potential terrorist. He calls Turning Point a “milquetoast” group, far from radical.
In the U.K. just to debate Islam causes the authorities to think you are committing a hate crime. The U.K. has arrested Christians for silently praying outside of abortion clinics. On Aug. 21, a U.K. was arrested for saying he liked bacon within hearing of Muslims, who are prohibited by their religion from eating pork.
When the three government agencies began to crack down on Young Bob, his family insisted he desist from evangelism and conservative politics and demanded he take his videos down from YouTube, an ultimatum he refused.
“I’m going to fight it every step of the way because I believe that if 16- to 17-year-olds will now have the right to vote, they have the right to political activism, religious activism, preaching,” he declared. “I don’t think I’m going to stop even if it f–ks me over and kamikazes my career into homelessness.”
