When Muslim immigrants come to the West, they bring their faith with them.
No problem. We honor freedom of religion.
But what if their religion includes child marriage?
New data from the German state of Baden-Württemberg reveals that 358 marriages since April 2012 involve a underage girl (almost always its a girl).
One of the girls was aged 11.
Islam permits marriage of girls aged 9 since the prophet consummated his marriage to Aisha when she was 9. The hadith says she married at age 6 and brought her dolls and play things with her. Mohammad wisely and graciously allowed her to develop to age 9 before fulfilling the marriage.
The new data was revealed by a local politician from the hard-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).
“Nearly 40% of child marriages were contracted between Syrians, while child marriages between two Germans account for only 0.3%,” posted on X the AfD politician Nikolaos Boutakoglou.
In 2018, a 14-year-old Afghan girl was married to a 30-year-old Afghan man, the data revealed. Many of those involved in these partnerships come from Syria, Iraq, Pakistan and other Muslim nations.
“Child marriages are incompatible with our values,” said Emely Knoll, anotherAfD politician. “Children have a right to safety, education and a self-determined future. That is why we need effective protection, early intervention, and decisive action against forced marriages.”
In Germany, the AfD is seen by many as aligning with the Nazism of Hitler.
The United Nations reports that nearly one-in-five women were married before the age of 18. In West and Central Africa, those numbers are worse: 32% of women are married before they turn 18.
If that’s not bad enough, another piece of information will startle you: Of every 25 women across the globe, one is married before they turn 15.
Unicef condemns child marriage as a “fundamental violation of human rights,” Unicef says. “Child marriage often compromises a girl’s development by resulting in early pregnancy and social isolation, interrupting her schooling, limiting her opportunities for career and vocational advancement and placing her at risk of domestic violence.”
But Europe has been accommodating to Muslims and respectful to their culture — some would say overly so. The danger is not just to lose your values making room for values that are very different cultures, it is subverting your law with their law.
