So France is casting itself as the champion of the oppressed nations, the people of color trampled down by the imperialist and colonizing powerful nations, are they? President Emmanuel Macron said France will present a resolution to the United Nations in September to recognize the State of Palestine.
How just of them! What dignity, selflessness and noble majesty! They’re real heroes for the underdogs.
But if France REALLY wants to help the peoples under the boot of their masters, maybe they should look at themselves and not butt into other people’s problems.
While preening its higher moral ground, France keeps under its colonial foot Benin, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Togo, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon.
As a condition of granting them independence post WW2, they required these countries to maintain 50% of their foreign exchange reserves with the Banque de France in an operating account to “stabilize” their currencies.
The operating account means that France collects and uses for itself hundreds of billions annually. It oppresses the former French colonies, stymieing economic growth and cheating them of money they could use to build infrastructure for their nations.
Additionally, the African nations must favor French contractors and give France right to newly discovered resources.
Anyone who refused to sign up for the “CFA franc system” was dealt with unmercifully. In 1958, Guinea under President Ahmed Sékou Touré wanted out of the French Community, and France responded by immediately withdrawing all aid and personnel; allegedly destroying infrastructure, burning records and sabotaging the economy; trying to destabilize the government through covert operations.
In Togo, President Sylvanus Olympio rejected the CFA franc in 1983 and overthrown by coup and killed shortly thereafter.
“Without Africa, France will slide down into the rank of a third [world] power” and attributed to former French President Jacques René Chirac is widely reported as having said in 2008. The quote, though hard to trace to its origin, reflects what other politicians have stated through the years.
In other words, Africa is a cash cow that enriches France.
But oh, when it comes to Israel’s difficult war against Hamas, WHICH STILL IS HOLDING SOME 50 HOSTAGES, French leaders assume the role of moral guardians of the universe and begin to pronounce self-righteous judgements upon over everyone they consider beneath them.
When you’re own laundry is dirty, don’t criticize other people’s soiled clothes. Or as Matt. 7:5 says: You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
