On Day he cackled mockingly that somebody in the comments suggested he had felt the Holy Spirit. A few days later, he was crying. He had accepted Jesus.
“This is Day 20 of pretending God real. I got to come clean,” says Brian Guan. “I’ve been I’ve started getting nightmares that will wake me up in the middle of the night. hey feel very like dark and sinister in nature. My girlfriend started getting dreams of doing bad things to me. My roommate and best friend was like getting dreams that this all happened over the course of one week. But dude, that fear was humbling. he pretending stopped working for him. If if these dark things are real, I need God. And I can’t just pretend to need God.”
A kid who lost faith in college, Brian Guan of New York performed an experiment for 30 days online. He didn’t believe in God. If he pretended to believe in God, what would happen? Daily, he published videos under the title “Faithless Christianity” starting July 31.
The former crypto techie decided that if he was going to “pretend” to believe, he needed to do what Christians do: pray, read the Bible, go to church and whatnot.
On the first day, he learned that Christians need to forgive. He called an estranged friend and reconciled.
On Day 5, he asked God to take away his addiction to nicotine, a habit he struggled to break for eight years. Eventually, the addiction faded away.
On Day 8, he had a realization. If he were to practice gratitude, whom was he grateful to? He stopped saying God and started saying “Father.”
On Day 15, commenters notice he doesn’t sound like he’s pretending. He sounds like a legit Christian.
On Day 17, another revelation: the kindest person he knows, his friend’s mother, is kind only because it is a gift from God.
As his faith grew, so did his following. He started with only 700 followers and surpassed 170,000.
On Day 20, the dam broke.
“I’m done pretending,” he declares. “Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.”
