She was shopping online for secondhand books when she spotted a New Testament for 69 cents. After searching for spiritual answers for years, she wasn’t expecting to find them in an old book she almost overlooked.
“It was 69 cents or something, and I was like, wow, the New Testament—only 70 cents!” says Eneri, a pseudonym she uses online. “It couldn’t hurt to get that.”
Raised in Germany, Eneri grew up in a Muslim household before eventually leaving Islam to find answers for herself. For a time, she described herself as an atheist.
Even though she left her faith behind, she constantly found herself searching for spiritual answers and looking into practices, like meditation or New Age spirituality. She even experimented with astral projection.
“I was at a loss. I didn’t even know what to do,” Eneri recalls. “I just kept on searching. I kept on searching.”
When her search did come to an end, it was in a way she never expected.
She purchased a New Testament and shortly afterward turned to Christianity.
Growing up in a Muslim family, she thought if there was a God at all it was Allah. Christianity had never seemed like an answer she needed to consider seriously. But as she studied the New Testament and listened to Christian apologists, her view began to change.
Although, she didn’t immediately read it after buying it. She continued researching Christianity online.
One of the people she came across was David Wood. He caught her attention by debunking Islam in youtube videos.
Eneri says that the more she watched, the more she found answers to questions that had bothered her for years. The more she watched, the more she realized she had been lied to all her life.
“I sat there in my little apartment of 19 square meters and cried,” she says. “Because when you believe in something for most of your life and then it hits you in the face, it’s like you’re being betrayed by a friend.”
When Eneri did start reading the New Testament Eneri says it, “felt like meeting an old friend again.” She was compelled to become a Christian but she didn’t know how to.
She continued to do more research and eventually learned about the salvation prayer.
“I felt the Holy Spirit upon me. It was a very warm, tingly feeling”
For Eneri, the moment marked the end of a search that had lasted for seven years.
